Role

This organization is currently seeking a Junior Estimator- Solar. They must have solar estimating experience and a thorough understanding of the entire project life cycle from bid to completion. This role requires someone with ambition and seeking personal and professional growth in the renewables industry.

Responsibilities

  • Assess opportunities for potential construction projects
  • Develop quotes for scope of work (civil, mechanical and electrical installation) using construction estimating software (ConEst), based on proposed drawings and sketches
  • Create total cost estimates for installation work (ranging from $500k to $5M)
  • Calculating various project costs such as materials, labor, and equipment
  • Collaborate cross-departmentally to provide information regarding estimated costs and market values
  • Develop and issue Request for Proposals which include vendors, suppliers and subcontractors
  • Communicate with contractors to obtain estimates and bid clarification
  • Develop relationships with vendors to properly assess costs and effectively reduce overall expenditures
  • Keep up to date on market costs

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering or Construction
  • At least 1+ years of C&I or Utility Scale solar estimating experience
  • At least 1 years of solar construction or EPC experience
  • Experience working on C&I or utility scale PV systems
  • Knowledge and understanding of electrical systems and wiring of solar arrays
  • Experience in cost control, purchasing, scheduling and the ability to read takeoffs and properly valuate off engineering drawings
  • Ability to conceptualize project prior to construction (not developing design)
  • Capable of estimating projects up to $5M
  • Strong communication skills and ability to negotiate costs
  • Knowledge of ConEst, estimating software and Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to be a leader and display problem solving techniques
  • Capability to build a team and lead from the front
