The Center for Biological Diversity seeks a full-time Senior Campaigner in our Public Lands Program to lead our work to reform mining practices on public lands and to protect federal forests and biodiversity. General position overview: The Center for Biological Diversity's Public Lands Program works to protect public lands and the wildlife that depends on them from a range of threats including mining, logging, fracking and drilling, livestock grazing and other harmful development. We work at the policy and project levels waging innovative grassroots, legal and communications campaigns. Our goals for this position are to help advance policy priorities for the public lands program, with an initial focus on mining reform and improved forest management. Specifically, the campaigner will work to secure reform of woefully outdated regulations that govern mining on federal lands, while simultaneously advancing policies to reduce the demand for such mining by increasing the recycling of critical minerals. In the forest arena, the campaigner will work to protect the ecological integrity of federal forests by ending logging of old and mature forests, reducing the road system, and promoting wildland fire use policies. The successful candidate will play a leading role in our national campaigning and policy work, as part of a dynamic team of lawyers, scientists and media professionals. There is no need to upload your application materials multiple times. Main duties: Plan and implement effective campaigns that inspire people to demand meaningful policy changes. Develop and run national and regional campaigns, and coordinate with program staff on these campaigns including developing compelling campaign tools and materials. Communicate with decision-makers, the public, allies and opinion leaders through outreach, writing and public speaking. Organize and promote participation in hearings, protests, and other events. Build and maintain strong relationships with coalition allies working together to achieve our goals. This includes playing a leadership role in coalitions through regular in-person, phone, and electronic communication. Forming strategic relationships with new and existing allies to increase our mutual power, including impacted tribes. Travel required. Essential qualities, qualifications and skills: Minimum 8 years of experience in results-oriented coalition organizing and advocacy campaigns. Demonstrated ability to successfully navigate challenges, including from powerful and well-resourced opposition. Strong organizational skills and an ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment with a full workload where it is necessary to balance multiple tasks and deadlines. Excellent analytic, written and verbal communication skills including reviewing, compiling and translating science into compelling policy and advocacy materials. Ability to work effectively both independently and with a team. Experience with media outreach and media interviews preferred. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues and organizations with a wide array of goals, perspectives, and backgrounds. Ability to work effectively both independently and with a team.
