The successful candidate will work closely with our technology partner as we transition and take control of the design and product development. If you've designed and built power conversion systems including micro converters, inverters, local control units, printed circuit boards related to power conversion products, then we'd love to talk with you.The Senior Electrical Product Development Engineer reports solid line to the CEO and works closely with other staff and partner company employees to carry out the daily duties of design, product development, and other tasks that advance YouSolar's competitive advantage.POSITION SUMMARY:The Senior Electrical Product Development Engineer's (SEPDE) primary role is to be responsible for evaluating and validating the power solutions created by YouSolar and its power electronics partner. The SEPDE is accountable for evaluating and implementing power electronics topologies and the design, bring-up, and design verification of power electronics and control boards. The position requires a hands-on approach, a can-do attitude, a passion for exploring diverse aspects of electrical design, excellent multi-disciplined teamwork, and a willingness to take on risk.In the performance of this function, it is the SEPDE's responsibility to protect and promote YouSolar's interests in all matters and do whatever is reasonably necessary to execute her or his duties and responsibilities. The offer of employment is subject to the candidate/prospective employee being able to document their legal right to work in the United States.JOB DUTIES:Senior Electrical Product Development EngineerWork LocationYouSolar, Inc. 292 Brokaw Road, Santa Clara, CA 95050 USA initially, remote work possible after achievement of product development milestonesJob sites when requiredTechnicalDesign, simulation, testing, and analysis of power electronic topologies and circuits, including power supplies, microcontroller units, gate drive, power stage, and protection circuitryDefining design requirements, schematics, constraints, board stack-up, and layout from product-level requirementsCircuit prototyping, characterization, and validationSpecification development and documentation of compliancePerform failure analyses such as DFMEA and worst-case circuit analysis (WCCA) as well as failure analyses on products in design verificationDeveloping test and validation plans and documenting test resultsDesign, building and configuring complex test setupsData analysis generated from factory builds and lab experimentsPresenting designs and test results to a group of a diverse set of engineering focus groups, including EEs, MEs, and othersGenerating and accepting constructive feedback in brainstorming and design review forumsAssist in further developing the power components designed for the PowerBlocTest PowerBloc components preassembly into cabinetsInstall the PowerBloc components into YouSolar cabinets, as received from vendorsTest the PowerBloc before dispatching to job, ensure quality check/passing test results are documentedBusiness Process Development and DocumentationDevelop technical requirements of standard work procedures for:materials/components procurementmaterials/components receipt, inspection, testing, and acceptancematerials/components storing and shippingPowerBloc testing and documentation of actual readings/successful test resultsDevelop a master list of all PowerBloc components, a Bill of Material (BOM) for each component and cabinetsDevelop a recommended spare parts list for the PowerBlocKey Qualifications5+ years of power electronics design experienceExperience designing low, medium, and high voltage power electronics both single and 3 phase inverters preferredProficiency with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, programmable power supplies, function generators, power analyzers, and electronic loadsFamiliar with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) design concepts for power convertersExperience working in a team environment and self-motivatedAbility to articulate design issues in quantitative terms both verbally and with documentation to a diverse audience and gathering team supportStrong analytical/problem-solving skills and knowledge to use statistical techniquesMust possess a good understanding of thermals, mechanical, packaging, and cost impactsPower electronics experience required, consideration will be given to qualified candidates from medical, automotive, aerospace, and consumer electronicsFlexibility and comfortable working in a quickly changing environmentEducation, Credentials & Experiencein Electrical Engineering required, MS and Ph.D. highly valuedProfessional Engineer Credential required CA preferredWORK SCHEDULEWork on-site at YouSolar Energy, Inc. 292 Brokaw Rd.
