Background Aon Impact forecasting's (IF) vulnerability team is looking for a vulnerability modeler to build new damage functions for atmospheric perils like wind/ severe convective storm (SCS) and enhance existing ones as part of catastrophe modelling analysis in insurance and reinsurance industry. We are open hiring virtually. Main responsibilities Develop damage functions for atmospheric perils like wind/SCS (using simulation and/or claims) for different regions. Development and calibration of custom damage functions for different clients. Evaluate building codes, building industry data, and construction practices by regions. Collect and analyse insurance claims and loss data. Use IF proprietary loss modelling platform ELEMENTS in estimating loss. Utilize probabilistic models to estimate location and portfolio level loss distribution and average annual loss. Actively collaborate with IF R&D and software development teams in all aspects of the model development and implementing the methodologies developed by the R&D group at IF. Provide critical analysis of modelling results for internal of models and explaining results to clients when required. Collaborate with Aon catastrophe management and analytics team members especially incl. the model evaluation team. Educational background and skills MSc or PhD in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Wind Engineering required. 2 plus years of experience in CAT Modeling perferred Strong analytical and quantitative skills. Solid knowledge of probability concepts and statistics Proficiency in data analysis and excellent programming skills in MATLAB, Python, or R. In-depth knowledge of structural responses to flood, wind and other perils, especially common failure points and mechanisms General understanding of building practices and codes in the US and Europe Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills Experience working with insurance claims data and building custom vulnerability models Experience with manipulation of large complex datasets using SQL and ability to manipulate large data sets.
